Our professional development workshops are grounded in play-based learning, child development, and the principles of high-quality early childhood education. We draw on NAEYC’s developmentally appropriate practice guidelines to help teachers connect research and theory to what they see and do in the classroom every day.

We’ll be meeting on Google Meet for 5 engaging sessions from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Grab your copy of the book, bring your ideas and questions, and get ready for some great conversations! (The copies are available at King, Pierce/Tacoma and Thurston County Libraries.)

Three-session Professional Development Program

Date: Oct 6th, 2026, Jan 19th & Mar 9th, 2027

Our three-session series creates an ongoing space for teachers to connect, learn together, and support one another. Across the three workshops, teachers have time to revisit ideas, share experiences, build on their learning, and explore new ways to apply what they learn in their classrooms. The continued connection encourages creativity, reflection, and collaboration—making professional development something teachers experience together, not alone.

"Confident Teachers, Confident Parents: Supporting Children Through Conflict"

Location: Tacoma Nature Center Time:12:30-2:30pm

This interactive workshop helps teachers build confidence in responding to child-to-child conflict and supporting working parents as confident classroom partners. Teachers will explore positive discipline, reflect on their own experiences with conflict and discipline, and examine current teaching strategies. They will also create practical, case-by-case “What Do I Do?” scenario cards to help working parents respond consistently in the classroom.

"Play Is Learning: Confidently Communicating Kindergarten Readiness"

Explore the brain research behind play-based learning and how play builds the skills children need for kindergarten readiness. Teachers will create practical sentence starters and communication tools for conversations, newsletters, and classroom displays—helping them confidently make children’s learning visible and advocate for play.

“Rethinking Music Time: Beyond CD’s and YouTube”

Location:TBD Time:12:30-2:30pm Music time can be much more than playing a song on a CD or youtube. This interactive workshop invites teachers to rethink how music can support the whole child. Through demonstrations and hands-on activities, teachers will explore ways to use music to build social-emotional skills, language, early math and science concepts, and executive function.
